Introduction to Kabbadi:

Kabaddi originated in ancient Andhra Pradesh, a southern state of India.Modern kabaddi is therefore a synthesis of the game played in various forms under different names.Kabaddi received international exposure during the 1936 Berlin Olympics, demonstrated by India.       

The teams take turns sending a "raider" into the other half. To win a point, the raider must take a breath, run into the opposing half, tag one or more members of the opposite team, then return to their home half before inhaling again. The raider will chant "kabaddi, kabaddi" with their exhaling breath to show the referee they have not inhaled.     

Defenders may not cross the centre line (the "lobby") of the field and the raider may not cross the boundary lines. However, there is one bonus line which can grant extra points for the raider if he manages to touch it and return successfully. Players who are out are temporarily sent off the field. Each time a player is out, the opposing team earns a point. A team scores a bonus of two points (called a "lona"), if the entire opposing team is declared out. At the end of the game, the team with the most points wins.

Kabbadi World Cup Objectives     

  • To affirm kabaddi as a truly global sport and not just an Indian/Asian sport     
  • Create heroes out of relatively modest layers     
  • To convey the emotion that team is ready to rival against the entire world in kabaddi

Design Brief :     

  • Designs for country team kit – two designs from for each team so that no teams playing each other has clashing colors.     
  • Each design will need to be different from the other team and will need to incorporate
  • Different cuts and necklines to ensure they stand out from the regular kabaddi playing kits.

The team colours can be chosen from the following:

  •  colours from the national flag
  •  colours from other sport jerseys of the country
  • any other colour with strong association with the country

Design Process:

Iterations

Multiple design options were created for each country based on the moodboard created for the respective teams. Post back and forth meetings with team management final design were selected for sampling and production.

Sampling

Digital artworks were created for digital printing process, then later printed fabrics were sent to Production floor for garment construction. Simultaneously custom fit charts and pattern blocks were created to increase performance level of athlete. 

Fit sessions were conducted with players, all the corrections and feedbacks were incorporated for final Production.
